The vineyard of Château de Péna lies over a terroir of clay and limestone, consisting of soils of marl and black shale, locally known as "black stone” spread over the foothills of the Corbières. This exceptional terroir, facing due South and South-East in a seaward direction, produces a quite extraordinary red wine, Château de Péna gives a wine that is deeply dark, with a heavenly bouquet of warm stone and dark fruit: blackberry, blackcurrant liqueur, cooked burlat cherry, light and Havana tobacco. On the palate, it gives amazing freshness and length, is potent and marked by ripe tannins. Château de Péna should be enjoyed at 18°C and goes wonderfully with dishes cooked in sauce and grilled meat.
Colour : A deep dark color.
Aroma : An empyreumatic bouquet of hot stone, tar, burnt licorice, dark fruit, blackberries, blackcurrant liqueur, cooked cherries, light and Havana tobaccos.
Palate : Tannins are mature, giving potency on the palate with amazing freshness and a long finish.
